The college aims to offer education that would eliminate the darkness of ignorance and lead the students to understand the power of knowledge.
The staff of the Cochin College has in general kept up its tradition of efficient and dedicated service. Apart from giving instructions to students according to the prescribed syllabus they also aim at the full development of the latent potentialities of the young scholars. It has been the constant endeavour of the teachers to convince the students of the value of education and the need for consistent hardwork. A good number of our teachers possess reasearch degrees and a few of them are university research guides. The most important section of the college community is the teachers on whom depends the quality of the instiution more than on anybody else.
The department of COMMERCE is one of the most prestigious departments of the college. It was established in 1968 and had the honour of being the first department to be upgraded to a degree department in 1978 and to a post graduate department in 1995. It offers the conventional B.Com Course with taxation as the optional subject. And also a vocational course, B.Com Marketing. The M.Com course offers financial management as the optional subject. The department library is well equipped with 1200 books. There are eleven members in the faculty of which 4 have Ph.D and 4 M.Phil degrees. Two of the Ph.D holders are recognised guides of the M.G. University and the department is also a research centre of Commerce.
