The staff of the Cochin College has in general kept up its tradition of efficient and dedicated service. Apart from giving instructions to students according to the prescribed syllabus they also aim at the full development of the latent potentialities of the young scholars. It has been the constant endeavour of the teachers to convince the students of the value of education and the need for consistent hardwork. A good number of our teachers possess reasearch degrees and a few of them are university research guides. The most important section of the college community is the teachers on whom depends the quality of the instiution more than on anybody else.

The department ECONOMICS was established in 1967. It became a full fledged department when the degree course was started in 1980. It is one of the few departments in the state which offers Methematics as a compulsory subsidiary for the degree course along with Indian History. Of the three members of the department, one is a Ph.D holder who is a recognised research guide of the M.G. University. One of the members is an M.Phil and another member is pursuing research for Ph.D.                 The department has a separate department library which has nearly 1000 books. the department annually publishes an in house magazine called "Economag". The first rank holders of the M.G. University for B.A. (Economics) during 1995 and 1998 were from this department.
