The staff of the Cochin College has in general kept up its tradition of efficient and dedicated service. Apart from giving instructions to students according to the prescribed syllabus they also aim at the full development of the latent potentialities of the young scholars. It has been the constant endeavour of the teachers to convince the students of the value of education and the need for consistent hardwork. A good number of our teachers possess reasearch degrees and a few of them are university research guides. The most important section of the college community is the teachers on whom depends the quality of the instiution more than on anybody else.

The Department of French was established in 1980. It was two well qualified members, one of whom is an M.Phil. It offers French as a second language to the students of BA/BSc/BCom in their first two years of the degree course. There are nearly 250 books in the French section in the college Library.              Though a foreign language, the department has successfully implemented the latest communication teaching method. For the past six years a "French Day" has been held annually. Special emphasis is being given by the department to the beginners. The Department has to its credit several rank holders. French students have participated in the 'French Nightingale', a singing competition organised by the French Embassy. Students are engouraged to pursue higher studies in French since qualified French teachers are in great demand in India and abroad.
