The staff of the Cochin College has in general kept up its tradition of efficient and dedicated service. Apart from giving instructions to students according to the prescribed syllabus they also aim at the full development of the latent potentialities of the young scholars. It has been the constant endeavour of the teachers to convince the students of the value of education and the need for consistent hardwork. A good number of our teachers possess reasearch degrees and a few of them are university research guides. The most important section of the college community is the teachers on whom depends the quality of the instiution more than on anybody else.

The subject HISTORY was introduced in 1967 and subsequently when B.A. in Economics and English Literature were started, History was offered as an allied or subsidiary subject because of its composite nature. To students in Economics, History underlines the fact that Economics without History has no roots and History without Economics has no fruits. Students of Literature study History because History is a record of life and literature is a reflection of life. The department has one teacher who is a recognised research guide of M.G. University. The general library has a modest collection of 500 History books for reference.
