The college aims to offer education that would eliminate the darkness of ignorance and lead the students to understand the power of knowledge.
The staff of the Cochin College has in general kept up its tradition of efficient and dedicated service. Apart from giving instructions to students according to the prescribed syllabus they also aim at the full development of the latent potentialities of the young scholars. It has been the constant endeavour of the teachers to convince the students of the value of education and the need for consistent hardwork. A good number of our teachers possess reasearch degrees and a few of them are university research guides. The most important section of the college community is the teachers on whom depends the quality of the instiution more than on anybody else.
The Department of PHYSICS is one of the most prestigious departments of the College. It became a full fledged dapartment when the degree course was started in 1980. The post graduate course was inaugurated in 2001. All teachers are well qualified and there are 5 M.Phil and two Ph.Ds. The departmet has a separate department library with more than 2200 books. The department uses working models prepared by their highly competent staff themselves to teach basic Physics to their students.
The department regularly conducts workshops and seminars focussing attention on career guidance. The Department has an in house magazine "Spectra". . The Department has produced a number of rank holders.
